Guang Xi University Journalism and Communication( Broadcasting) Institute was founded in March 13th 2008.
The education of Guang Xi University Journalism and Communication( Broadcasting) Institute started at early time, it is a domestic academy degree point with a long history. In 1972, the News writing department was set up in the School of Chinese language and literature. Then the Department of Journalism was founded in 1977. In 1978, the department of journalism reunited with the Department of Chinese language and literature.
Significant development of Journalism and Communication education was taken place during this period. Therefore in 1986, the Department of Journalism acquired the permission of master degree admission, which was one of the only five Journalism master degree points in China. In June 2002, the Department of Journalism and the Department of Chinese language & literature were united as the School of Literacy & Communication, and admission of master of communication started later in September. In March 2008, finally the School of Journalism & Communication was founded.
In March ,2008, Journalism and Communication Institute was found.
The School of Journalism and Communication contains three undergraduate majors, the News Broadcast Journalism, Radio and Television Journalism and Advertising. Students were admitted in the school then divided to the different 3 departments.
Research masters include 2 different majors, Journalism and communication disciplines. Journalism master program includes 3 research directions: Journalism theory & history, News services, Radio & television news. Communication master program includes Mass communication & society, Literacy industry, Media convergence.
Running for over 30 years, the school has awarded more than 6,000 master/bachelor degrees (further education degrees included)
The graduates have a high social recognition and most of them have been playing important roles in government, non-government organizations and media corporations. The school currently has 593 undergraduates and 158 postgraduate students, 470 continuing education students.
The School of Journalism and Communication in Guangxi University has 42 existing in-service faculty within 34 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 7 doctors, 2 doctoral student, 12 Masters. The doctors were all graduated at the top ranked universities, such as Fudan University, Renmin University, etc. Doctors exceed 20% of the lecturers, 80% fulltime lecturers with master degrees are under the age of 35. Part time lecturers were all well-known, experts in relevant fields. We are blooming school and showing our rising momentum.
Conditions of education
The School of Journalism and Communication of Guangxi University consists of the Institute of news media, the ASEAN Institute of the media, the radio and television center and the experimental teaching centers in the College of Journalism. The experimental teaching centers have the branch of photography, audio-visual observation, studio, digital post-production room. The professional experiment covers an area of 1,800 square meters and the value of the teaching and research equipment up to 5.2 million, and the average production up to 8,500 CNY (divided by numbers of students), 50,000 volumes of books and provides more than 20 kinds of professional journals. There are 10 practical training bases among school and other places，such as Guangxi Daily, Southern China Morning Post, Guangxi TV. The journalism major was selected as the domestic major in 2007 and the condition of both teaching and research are improving steadily.
Our college has taken up more than 20 scientific research projects of National Social Science Fund and the autonomous region of Guangxi in the last 5 years. The research funding amounts to 40 million, more than 10 published monographs and 309 papers which contains 112 on core periodicals, giving the lecture about 50 times from the exporter employed 20 times in participating academic exchange. The college published 309 papers, 6 academic monographs, and 5 teaching masterpieces in the last 5 years. In the last three years, we acquired 1st prize by the District Social Sciences, 3 3rd prizes, and 1 1st prize by the Guangxi News.
The School of Journalism & Communication of Guangxi University, which is directed by Marxism Outlook on Journalism, take the digital approaches of teaching and training as a means of Journalism education to foster excellent journalistic dedicators, educators and research professionals, develop into a modern School of Journalism & Communication as a regional leader with domestic considerable influences, form a unique national feature in building Guangxi journalistic education. We are looking forward to become a media broadcasting ＆ propagation system talents training base, the General Administration of Press and Publication and the area of ASEAN as well . Moreover, we will become the theory and practice researching center, contributing for the development of the regional media enterprises, combining education, scientific research, training and social services functions.
On March 27, our vice-president Huang Weiyi led the delegation to participate the seventh Chinese international educational expo which held in Hanoi, Vietnam. About 30 Chinese universities attended the exhibition.
The vice-president, Huang Weiyi , as the distinguished leader of colleges, gave an important speech at the ‘the principals’ forum, which held by the MOE of China and Vietnam together. She said, 2010 is the 60th anniversary that China and Vietnam establishes diplomatic relations, also “the Chinese and Vietnamese friendship year. Chinese and the Vietnamese are neighbors in geography; also cherish the interlinked culture and a long history of friendly relationships. Along with the official establishment of China - ASEAN Free Trade Zone's, there is a closer and diversified relationship between Chinese and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which is the right time to promoted overseas studies between countries. We sincerely welcome more Vietnamese students study in Guangxi University, also encourage more Chinese students from different majors have the chance to know Vietnam better. The vice-president Huang Weiyi also introduced the traditional friendship between Guangxi University and Vietnam, the synthesis strength of our school, living status of foreign students.
At March 29th, in Hanoi, Vice-president Nguyen Jinshan , who is from Humanities and Social Sciences University of Vietnam National University, signed an agreement with Vice-president Huang Weiyi. The agreement is about cooperative education on exchange students of three majors between the Journalism Department of Humanities and Social Sciences University and the School of Journalism & Communication of Guangxi University. The co-sponsoring project is planning to enroll 60 students in the next semester (Sep 2010).
